DECISIONS
RIGHT NOW.
Our DeKalb GA is a community-led platform helping residents understand what’s happening, why it matters, and how to take action before decisions are finalized.
Two Critical Decisions.
Mega Data Centers
DeKalb is considering allowing industrial-scale data centers. These consume massive amounts of water and power while creating few jobs.

DeKalb extends data center moratorium 6 months
This recent extension is a direct result of community attention. It provides critical time for residents to push for stronger protections before the new rules are finalized.
Why this matters to residents
Our DeKalb GA exists to close the information gap and make participation easier.
Hard to Reverse
Large infrastructure decisions are difficult to reverse once approved.
Limited Resources
Public resources like land, water, and power are limited.
Reshaping Neighborhoods
Zoning changes can permanently reshape neighborhoods.
Silence is Risk
Community input is often minimal unless residents engage early.

Comment Script
I am writing to oppose the $16B plan for new power plants to serve data centers. Black households already pay more for energy and many live in older, less efficient homes. New data centers could increase costs, strain water, and add environmental risks without protections for our communities. I demand affordable, fair energy for Black Georgians. Please reject any plan that increases bills for residents to subsidize industrial data centers.
Where Things Stand (Jan 13 Vote)
DeKalb County Commissioners have acknowledged community concerns about mega data centers and their impact on land use, water consumption, power grid strain, and diesel emissions.
Despite these concerns, proposals are moving forward.
This makes January 13 a critical opportunity for residents to clear and directly urge the Commission to say no.

Public Comment — Data Center Zoning Decision
Message
I am a DeKalb County resident writing to express concern about large data center development and related zoning changes. These facilities use significant amounts of land, water, and power, often with minimal community benefit. I ask that the County Commission require strong protections for residential neighborhoods and meaningful public involvement before approving any data center ordinance or permits. Thank you.

Public Comment Statements
Choose one. Do not combine. Calm, direct statements grounded in fact are effective.
Statement A: Clear & Factual
Good morning. My name is ___ and I am a resident of DeKalb County. I am here to urge the Commission to say no to mega data center development in DeKalb County. Mega data centers are industrial facilities. They consume enormous amounts of electricity, place long-term strain on water systems, rely on diesel backup generators, and create very few permanent jobs once construction ends. These facilities permanently lock in land use while shifting infrastructure costs and environmental risk onto local communities. The long-term burden falls on residents, not the corporations operating them. DeKalb County’s land, water, and power are limited public resources. Approving mega data centers trades those resources away for minimal community benefit. I urge you to reject large data center development and protect DeKalb’s neighborhoods and future. Thank you.
Statement B: Community Focus
Good morning. My name is ___ and I live in DeKalb County. I am asking the Commission to vote no on mega data centers. These facilities are often presented as economic development, but in practice they consume massive amounts of power and water while providing very few long-term jobs. Once approved, they operate for decades and permanently change the capacity and character of surrounding areas. Communities absorb the impacts while private corporations benefit. This is not balanced or responsible development. Please reject mega data center projects in DeKalb County. Thank you.
Statement C: Short
Good morning. My name is ___ and I am a DeKalb resident. I am urging the Commission to say no to mega data centers. These facilities consume enormous public resources, create few permanent jobs, and permanently lock up land with little benefit to local communities. DeKalb County should protect its infrastructure and neighborhoods. Please vote no. Thank you.
